Dance of Devta

Himachal Pradesh

A season in the Himalayan valleys, with the village deities at the heart of mountain life and the families who welcomed us.

In the mountain villages of the Himalaya, the devta is more than a deity. It is a neighbour, a guardian and a reason for the whole village to gather.

This journey followed that season: we stayed with families, walked forest trails between villages, shared long breakfasts under the deodars and sat with the women who welcomed us onto their wooden balconies.
